About the role
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides basic nursing services for the care and treatment of patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN observes, reports, and implements individual patient care based on standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Observe patient condition and initiate appropriate nursing and/or medical care in collaboration with an RN.
- Provide basic care and tasks as directed by an RN.
- Perform specific patient procedures and treatments according to Hospital policies.
- Document care given and patient response in patient record.
- Clean and maintain equipment and environment.
- Demonstrate knowledge and use of appropriate equipment and supplies to provide quality patient care.
- Communicate significant information and changes in patient condition to the RN.
- Actively participate as a team member and constructively address patient and team issues to ensure quality patient care and a collaborative work environment.
- In collaboration with the RN, observe patient condition and initiate appropriate nursing care according to evidence-based policies and guidelines.
- Implement the nursing plan of care as delegated by the RN.
- Participate in patient/family teaching as delegated by the RN.
- Administer medications, perform diagnostic procedures and treatments according to evidence-based policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends in nursing and provide evidence of clinical competency.
- Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of departmental and hospital performance improvement programs.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required prior to start date.
- 1 year acute care patient experience.
- Homecare experience, preferred.
- Current Michigan license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proof of Auto Insurance.
- Computer literate.
- Interpersonal skills for effective communication.
- Excellent attendance.
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing education and completion of mandatory requirements.
