About the Role

Join our team of medical professionals in Tampa, Florida, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Hillsborough County Jail. As a Correctional Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care in a controlled environment with security as a top priority. This unique position allows you to make a difference for a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs. New graduates are encouraged to apply—we provide training in correctional healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Performing patient assessments, including interviewing patients about current health problems and medication history
  • Taking vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and weight
  • Providing wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas
  • Administering medication, including injections, and monitoring reactions
  • Maintaining medical records, including entering information into our electronic health record, TechCare
  • Observing patient health and mental health status
  • Providing emergency first aid
  • Providing patient education and discharge/release planning

Requirements

  • Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism, and adherence to a Code of Conduct
  • Compliance with all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
  • Bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift
