About the role
Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team, specializing in casting and durable medical equipment (DME) while also supporting various patient care tasks. In this role, you will assist physicians with patient care by applying casts, performing dressing changes, and managing DME applications. Responsibilities
- Preparing the patient for the exam by performing preliminary tests, as needed
- Reporting relevant information to the provider
- Assisting the provider with patient care as requested
- Performing scribe duties, as needed
- Reviewing treatment procedures with patients
- Assisting in ordering tests/retrieving results
- Reviewing discharge instructions
- Cast application, specialty cast, minor reductions/molding/suture/staple removal, and dressing changes
- Preparing injections and obtaining cultures as ordered/needed
- Dispensing Durable Medical Equipment (DME) to patients, application of DME, custom brace measurements, and ordering of DME inventory
- Verifying patient information, recording medical history, and reporting to physician
- Demonstrating complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system
- Maintaining and safeguarding all patient records as indicated and required by practice policies and HIPAA
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Unrestricted current LPN license to practice nursing in NYS
- 1-3 years of recent experience preferred
- Reliable transportation for travel between offices as needed
Skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical records (EMR) preferred
- CPR certification preferred
