Licensed Practical Nurse
About the role
The Licensed Practical Nurse at David Raines Community Health Centers provides basic and skilled nursing care to patients under the direction of RNs, NPs, or Physicians. Duties include reporting pertinent patient symptoms and changes in conditions to providers, assisting with emergency medical situations, documenting medications, treatments, and patient education, and assisting with medical management tasks.
Responsibilities
- Obtains vital signs, weight, and other measurements.
- Instructs and assists patients in collecting specimens as ordered.
- Informs physicians of urgent care needs and reports changes in patient condition.
- Checks charts for completeness before physician visits.
- Prepares patient for examinations or procedures.
- Administers oral, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications according to physician’s order and clinic policy.
- Cleans and checks refrigerator temperatures as assigned.
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms for the next day.
- Assists in performing clerical duties as needed.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing.
- Minimum one year of experience in related duties.
- Must hold a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse credential from the Louisiana Board of Nursing.
- Current BLS/CPR card must be valid through employment.
- Experience with electronic health records, preferably NextGen or similar EHR systems.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing.
- Minimum one year of experience in related duties.
- Must hold a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse credential from the Louisiana Board of Nursing.

Pay
The position is non-exempt and pays for hours worked during the SBHC calendar school year (August - May).
Schedule
The schedule is generally Monday through Friday, based on clinical operations and the approved SBHC calendar year. Schedules are not a contract of employment and may change at the needs of DRCHC.
