About the Role

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide patient care as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Documents patient-related care timely within the electronic health record
  • Maintain patient medical records
  • Administers medication, including oral and intramuscular medications, may administer intravenous therapy if appropriately certified
  • Performs treatments
  • Affords assistance to Doctors during Sick Call
  • Affords assistance to chronic care clinics management
  • Participates in patient care planning and treatment team activities
  • Responds to emergencies
  • Provides emergency care and collection of patient data
  • Collections vital signs and timely documents all findings
  • Collects urine and/or other body fluid specimens
  • May perform venipuncture in order to obtain blood samples for laboratory analysis
  • Prepares patients for release and/or transfer (i.e., Intra-system, out to court)
  • Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and timely forwarded to pharmacy services
  • Participates in work-related training and all institution training exercises as assigned
  • Provides assistance to other healthcare staff
  • Investigates and documents problem areas and/or areas of concern
  • Reviews shift report from preceding shift(s)
  • Affords assistance to physicians with medical procedures
  • Affords duties of other nurses during absences
  • Observes, documents and provides nursing support to assistive personnel (i.e., nurse aides, psychiatric attendants, and/or patient care assistants)
  • Provides patient education regarding healthcare maintenance and prevention of disease
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities
  • Performs administrative duties
  • Attends meetings
  • Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Performs and/or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
  • Affords assistance to ancillary staff including Health Information Technicians and medical schedulers as needed to ensure patient care needs are met
  • Must work overtime as required

Requirements

  • License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code
  • MDS certification issued by ANNAC (i.e. American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination)
