Licensed Optician
Job Description
Licensed Opticians are responsible for selling & dispensing eyewear and eyewear accessories to patients. They ensure patients are fitted with the right-size frames that fit their needs and lifestyle and dispense lenses with correct prescription and measurements.
They deliver extraordinary experiences to each patient, providing a complete understanding of customized recommendations for products and services. Custom fits glasses & precisely places prescriptions in lenses. Develops own clientele through outstanding service and referrals.
Assists co-workers with difficult or complex areas of product needs & prescriptions. Keeps current on company/industry products and procedures, manufacturer rebates, and types of lenses and frames available. Takes and returns patient calls, updates patients on order status, and resolves issues. Escalates concerns to the Store Manager.
Retrieves patient charts and electronic health records. Assists patients in selecting frames, lens types, and lens treatments based on specific patient needs and facial measurements. Educates patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care. Collects eye and face measurements to ensure proper fit.
Interprets prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. Creates work orders for lab technicians, specifying lens information. Follows-up on orders, verifying they meet time guidelines and informing patients of status. Notifies patients when orders arrive from the lab/manufacturers.
Dispenses glasses by inspecting products, adjusting as necessary, and gathering feedback. Adjusts eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort. Uses various tools for adjustments and repairs. Regularly communicates with technicians and/or store managers, providing additional patient information or asking for order statuses.
Inspects final products, ensuring no flaws; cleans and polishes lenses using cloths and solvents. Cleans and organizes frame boards, displays, mirrors, workbench, office area, bathroom, and breakroom, maintaining cleanliness and visual appeal. Restocks retail boards with new merchandise.
Understands product issues and analyzes any problems. Thoroughly and accurately answers patients' questions regarding insurance, warranties, products, materials, services, pricing, upgrades, promotions, etc. Collaborates with technicians, front desk associates, Managers, and Optometrists. Sells miscellaneous products like cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, safety glasses, etc.
Requirements
High School Diploma
State Licensure
Optical dispensing experience
Minimum of one-year experience working as an Optician, strongly preferred
Experience with HIPAA requirements preferred
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Excellent customer service skills and pleasant demeanor, experience with sales preferred
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Dependability and punctuality
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, kneel, and stand up to 8 hours a day
