Licensed Nursing Assistant, LNA

About the role

This position is accountable for delivering patient care according to established policies and procedures. The role involves carrying out direct physical care, documenting resident needs and conditions, and directing other non-licensed personnel on the nursing unit when indicated. The position may serve as "responsible/charge" on a unit during a particular shift but remains accountable to the LPN for monitoring and the RN for supervision.

Responsibilities

• Communicate regularly with the charge nurse regarding observations, suggestions, problem areas, resident and employee activities, concerns, needs, and conditions.
• Observe residents' medical, mental, and emotional conditions and report changes to appropriate staff.
• Provide explanations and understanding of nursing care to residents and families according to procedures, and offer support related to medical care as appropriate.
• Monitor resident rooms for actual or potential safety hazards (e.g., faulty electrical equipment, frayed cords, scatter rugs) and negotiate with residents/families for replacement or removal.
• Demonstrate proper body mechanics in assisting residents, physical activities, and lifting/moving items.
• Instruct and reinforce proper techniques for residents in the safe use of walkers and wheelchairs.
• Assist in the admission, orientation, discharge, and transfer of residents, including packing/unpacking belongings, placing personal items, initiating work orders, and orienting residents to their apartment and unit environment.
• Obtain shower and laundry schedules for new residents, assist with dining room seating, and facilitate introductions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Licensed Nursing Aide certificate.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Licensed Nursing Assistant.
• Minimum of 6 months full-time experience as a nursing assistant in a long-term geriatric setting.
• Proven leadership skills and good observation abilities.
• Ability to treat patient information confidentially.
• Strong organizational skills and compassion for senior adults.
• Effective written and verbal communication in English with residents, families, and staff.

Physical Requirements

• Majority of time spent standing and walking.
• Considerable bending, stooping, and supporting residents.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds independently, 50 pounds with assistance, and support weights up to 100 pounds.
• Manual dexterity and keen vision for equipment use.
• Exposure to unpleasant conditions and potentially infectious materials as part of routine job functions.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $18.15 - $24.14 per hour. Factors influencing pay include job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and internal/external equity considerations.
