About the Role

This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, meaning no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications. At a future date, employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status without needing to compete in an examination, affording them the same rights and privileges as competitive class employees.

Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement of this position. Chosen candidates will be added to the mandatory overtime roster, utilized on a rotating basis during emergencies or when all other staffing options have been exhausted. Our Addiction Treatment Centers (ATCs) operate 24/7/365, making MOT an essential function to ensure adequate staffing and the health and safety of clients.

OASAS ATCs are Tobacco-Free facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Interview clients and review medical/psychiatric history, completing various assessments as part of treatment plan development.
  • Assess individual and family needs, strengths, and limitations.
  • Complete required client and facility admissions documentation, adhering to applicable OASAS procedures and confidentiality regulations.
  • Provide orientation to clients regarding the nature of the treatment facility, including its programs, activities, policies, and rules.
  • Record significant psychosocial events and/or changes in clinical condition.
  • Determine individual needs for referral to community-based services.
  • Serve as a resource to other team members regarding social adjustment, discharge service needs, and the effective utilization of community services.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling, as well as crisis intervention, as needed.
  • Provide clinical consultation and assistance to professional staff and treatment team members under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker, psychologist, or psychiatrist.
  • Prepare reports and maintain all records as required.
  • Supervise and train social work interns and paraprofessional social work and/or direct care staff.
  • Coordinate shift coverage as needed and act as a point person during shifts.
  • Perform other job-related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Possession of a license and current registration as a licensed master social worker in New York State OR current permanent status as a Licensed Master Social Worker and qualified for lateral transfer OR eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
  • Ability to meet mandatory overtime requirements, including participation in a rotating overtime roster during emergencies or staffing shortages.

Background Investigation

Prospective appointees will undergo the following checks:

  • Review against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Employees found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect may be barred from appointment.
  • Criminal Background Check (CBC), including State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; felony or misdemeanor convictions, or falsified/omitted information on the employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its merits.
  • Screening against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be barred from appointment if their names appear on the SCR.

Fingerprinting may be required, and prospective employees may need to pay associated fees.

Pay

$37,096 - $47,060* (pro-rated for Part-Time).

The salary range reflects the full range for this graded position, including annual performance advances based on satisfactory reviews. New hires with no previous State service will start at the hiring rate, plus any applicable Location Pay, Geographic Pay, or Shift Pay differentials. Promotion salaries are calculated in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law and negotiated union contracts.
