Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services is a robust, free-standing psychiatric hospital offering dedicated services to adolescents and adults in the Birmingham community. With an average census of 150 patients, Hill Crest features acute inpatient, residential, and group home settings.

About the role
This PRN Dietitian/RDN position requires availability to attend a paid 8-business-day Orientation from 8 AM to 4 PM without interruptions. The role is responsible for the initial nutrition assessment appropriate to the patient’s clinical presentation, diagnosis, nutritional needs, age, developmental level, and cultural/religious orientation. The Dietitian develops individualized nutritional care plans based on assessments, including input from the patient, family members, and the multidisciplinary team, and makes recommendations to physicians for nutrition care.
Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize the need for further assessment and monitoring of nutritional needs.
- Perform age-specific comprehensive nutritional assessments upon initiation of nutrition support according to hospital policy and guidelines.
- Identify nutritional risks.
- Verify written diet orders and assess the appropriateness of diets prescribed by physicians.
Requirements
- Completion of all academic and supervised practice requirements as set forth by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in food and/or nutrition-related field.
- Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a dietitian (RD) or dietitian nutritionist (RDN).
- Any certifications as may be required by the state of Alabama.
- Maintain Certification in Food Service Sanitation by the Department of Health.
