About the role

As a Counselor III, you will provide individual, group, and family counseling, conduct clinical assessments for new and ongoing patients, and demonstrate expertise in therapeutic interventions and evidence-based practices. You will participate in treatment teams, provide service coordination, and advocate for patients with the Utilization Review department to ensure comprehensive care.

Responsibilities

• Provide intervention, assessments, treatment planning, triage, and individual/group counseling.
• Initiate and provide family counseling services.
• Deliver clinical services to all patients on caseload and assist with other patients as assigned.
• Provide clinical supervision to assigned interns.
• Participate in weekly treatment team and program staff meetings.
• Ensure timely and compliant documentation per AAC’s policy guidelines, meeting contract, licensure, and accreditation standards.
• Communicate efficiently with other departments to ensure optimal patient care.
• Provide clinical services to outpatient and inpatient adult populations.
• Adhere to state department standards, facility accreditation, and AAC’s policies and procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
• Monitor and manage the patient community as a therapeutic milieu.
• Intervene in crises to de-escalate situations and use events as therapeutic opportunities.
• Diagnose substance use disorders and/or co-occurring psychiatric disorders within scope of practice.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences (social work, counseling, or psychology).
• Unrestricted license to practice in the state of employment (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, etc.).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a behavioral healthcare field.
• Experience with substance abuse, addictions, mental health, cognitive behavioral treatment, and motivational interviewing.
• Knowledge of ASAM criteria and electronic health record software.
• Counseling experience with adults and understanding of psychotropic medications, symptoms, and effects.
• Ability to read, write, interpret written information, type documentation, and present information to groups.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record (if driving a company vehicle or using a personal vehicle for company business).
