About the role

The Licensed Colorist is the trusted advisor to the DIY enthusiast, providing digital color consultations to guide them through every step of their hair color journey. This role builds lasting relationships with each client, leveraging Sally Pro-In-The-Know skills to offer professional advice and recommendations, ensuring the DIY enthusiast achieves their hair color goals. The Licensed Colorist uses technology to connect and engage digitally, communicating via text and email to follow up and ensure 100% client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Grow the Business (70%)
  • Connect, engage, and inspire clients through digital color consultations to build lasting relationships.
  • Listen and understand each client’s needs; make expert product recommendations and build a customized shopping cart.
  • Provide unrivaled expertise, troubleshoot color situations, and ensure positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrate ‘build the basket’ techniques to offer complimentary products that enhance the DIY experience.
  • Assess client skill levels; teach and advise on products and techniques to ensure success.
  • Utilize the Sally Engagement Model through tutorials, provide written summaries of consultations, and follow up to ensure satisfaction.
  • Meet or exceed established metrics and color growth goals.

  • Stay informed about Sally Beauty initiatives and demonstrate CAN DO values.
  • Share color expertise and selling techniques with the team of Licensed Colorists.
  • Communicate with support center partners on emerging trends, product concerns, and client issues.

  • Complete all required company and vendor training programs.
  • Seek internal and external learning opportunities to develop expertise in hair color technical knowledge and selling skills.
  • Strive for continuous improvement to retain clients and increase sales.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Cosmetology License required; emphasis in Color Theory preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years in retail, customer service, salon, or one year with Sally Beauty.
• Ability to pass a detailed Hair Color Knowledge Check.
• Strong professional image and ability to interface positively with clients.
• Proficiency in technology, including software platforms, Microsoft Office, digital video conferencing, clienteling, and digital appointment scheduling tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient problem-solving skills and ability to correct complex hair color situations.
• Flexibility to work additional hours based on business needs; weekend, evening, and holiday hours may be required.
• Strong time management and organization skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Schedule

Mid-to-closing shifts available (standard hours 8 am to 10 pm CST daily): 11 am–8 pm, 12 pm–9 pm, or 1 pm–10 pm CST.

Working Conditions

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles. Normal safety precautions are required, such as safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
