About the role

This vacancy is located at Mountain View Public & School Library. The salary range is $20.80 to $26.33 hourly (SR-11, Step C to I). Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform highly complex library support work;
  • Supervise and participate in performing complex library support work;
  • Perform substantive technical/paraprofessional library support work which requires knowledge and understanding of techniques used in one or more of the basic elements of library sciences;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization To Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • General Experience: One (1) year of clerical work experience, which demonstrated knowledge of spelling and arithmetic; the ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and compare words and numbers quickly and accurately; knowledge of various clerical procedures, operation of various kinds of office equipment, and dealing with others in a tactful and polite manner; or at least comparable to the Library Assistant II level.
  • Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a library which involved performing various library support activities and which demonstrated knowledge of and required the application of library terminology, practices, policies and procedures and understanding of the nature and organization of library materials; at least one year of the required Specialized Experience must have been comparable to the Library Assistant IV level.
  • Supervisory Aptitude: For certain positions, supervisory aptitude may be required.
  • Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Knowledge of and ability to perform various clerical procedures, operate various kinds of office equipment, and deal with others in a tactful and polite manner; knowledge of and understanding of various elements related to the organization of library materials, including elements of bibliographic description, catalog card elements and general format, standard library tools and reference sources (e.g., Library of Congress Subject Headings, Books in Print, Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature), classification scheme(s) (e.g., Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress), and/or the nature of various types of publications and materials.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts: Eligible employees can reduce their federal and state income taxes and social security taxes through a tax-savings benefit program called Island Flex. This program allows employees to set aside money from their paychecks to pay for out-of-pocket health care expenses and eligible dependent care expenses on a BEFORE-TAX basis.
  • Transportation Benefits: Participating employees may increase their take-home pay by having the State deduct qualified transportation expenses (i.e. eligible parking fees, monthly bus passes for TheBus, fare coupons for The Handi-Van, Vanpool Hawaii participation fee, etc.) through pre-tax payroll deductions.
  • Deferred Compensation: The State offers employees a voluntary pre-tax retirement savings plan designed to give employees a tax break today and an opportunity to build a retirement nest egg through voluntary payroll deductions.
  • Temporary Disability Insurance: Qualified employees may be eligible to receive benefits for a disability caused by a non-work related injury or illness under this program.
  • Social Security: As an employer, the State also contributes to an employee's social security account.

The salary range is $20.80 to $26.33 hourly (SR-11, Step C to I). Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Schedule

Shift Work: Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends.
