About The Position And Our Agency
The City of Carpinteria is Accepting Applications for Library Technician (Part-Time).

Understand Your Role
- Provide courteous and efficient customer service, including readers’ advisory, reference, and circulation assistance.
- Respond to in-person, telephone, and electronic inquiries, referring questions to a Librarian when appropriate.
- Support patrons with technology, including library computers, Wi-Fi, e-resources, and learning platforms.
- Affiliate with library programs and outreach activities for all ages and cultural groups.
- Support collection maintenance, including processing, shelving, and weeding of materials.
- Affiliate with preparation of reports, data entry, and maintaining tracking or statistical records.
- Maintain patron behavior and ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on library equipment; initiate repair requests as needed.
- Affiliate with training and mentoring volunteers and, where applicable, other Library Technician staff.
Preferred Work Schedule
- Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Fridays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- One Saturday per month, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education And/or Experience: Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Library Technician.
- License, Certification And Other Requirements: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA's): The following are a representative sample of the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential duties of the position:
- Knowledge Of: Principles and practices of public library service.
- Customer service, equity, diversity, and inclusion practices.
- Library classification, cataloging, and circulation systems.
- Basic recordkeeping and reporting procedures.
- Modern office software and equipment.
- Ability To: Provide courteous and professional service to patrons and coworkers.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Learn and apply new technology and library systems.
- Interpret and apply library policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in records.
- Lift and move library materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
Supplemental Information
- May be required to work evenings, Saturdays and/or Sundays.
