About the role

The City of Aurora seeks two Library Security Clerks to provide high-quality customer service and security at assigned library locations. The positions involve working with a diverse group of patrons and performing various clerical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts patrols of facilities, both inside and outside, checking doors and non-public areas for security.
  • Assists staff in addressing disruptive behavior, customer concerns, and other security-related incidents.
  • Completes incident reports and logs them into the electronic database.
  • Works with staff, contract guards, and emergency services to assist in incident investigations.
  • Observes or reviews security camera footage.
  • Assists with research and programs.
  • Ensures library space is neat and organized.
  • Checks book/other items in and out, manages patron accounts, places items on hold, processes prospector items through computerized system.
  • Sorts, processes, shelves, and assists with other general library materials inventory management duties.
  • Answers basic reference, reader's advisory, general customer questions, and provides basic computer usage support.
  • Operates a cash register, conducts customer payment transactions, maintains a cash drawer.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of security experience.
  • Preferred: At least 6 months of direct customer service in retail or service industry setting.
  • Library background experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques.
  • Routine software/computer systems including the internet.
  • Email, word processing, spreadsheets, database input/use.
  • Inventory/customer transaction systems.

Skills

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Windows-based programs.
  • General office equipment, computers, calculators, and copy/fax machine.
  • Basic mathematical calculations.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work shifts, including some nights, and weekends.

Benefits

Salary to be commensurate with experience. The hiring range for this position is $18.65 - $23.31 per hour.

$18.65 - $23.31 per hour

Schedule

Shift work to include days, nights, and weekends.

We have two divisions within the department: Library and Cultural Services, both offering a variety of free services to the community, including 5 public libraries, the Aurora History Museum and Historic Sites, Aurora Fox Arts Center, The People’s Building, and community events, programs, and activities for all ages.
