Library Media Technical Associate - Roy Cloud

About the role

The REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT seeks a LIBRARY MEDIA TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE (LMTA) to join our dedicated team. This position provides support to district library media assistants, trains and mentors them, and assists with media technology activities in a school environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the training and professional development of school library media assistants, particularly in the areas of new and/or upgrades of software programs such as Alexandria and PowerSchool.
• Organize and present workshops for Library Media Assistants in newly adopted software programs.
• Provide troubleshooting services for software and equipment and initiate help tickets for equipment that needs to be repaired by the Technology Department.
• Communicate various methods and techniques used for machine readable cataloging, MARC records, budget monitoring using Excel, library program activities, lesson planning, and presentations using PowerPoint or overheads.
• Serve as a mentor to a designated group of Library Media Assistants.
• Provide exemplary library media service and programming in areas such as organizing and maintaining the routine operation of a school library media center, receiving, processing, and circulating materials, assisting teachers and students with information literacy skills, and creating displays to promote reading and library media units and themes.

Requirements

• Recent experience providing library media services in a school setting.
• Demonstrated skills in methods, practices, terminology, and procedures used in a library media center.
• Ability to provide leadership, mentoring, and technical assistance to Library Media Assistants under the direction of the District Librarian.
• Demonstrated experience with automated online public access catalog, district student databases, and integration of circulation system with district student database.
• Demonstrated abilities to use and troubleshoot equipment including computers, scanners, digital cameras, and printers.
• Strong interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to work well with children and adults using tact, patience, and courtesy.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college's Associate of Arts program in library media technology or holding a certificate from a program in Library Media Technology.
• Completion of a library media program from an accredited college combined with at least 2 years of school library media experience.
• At least two years of successful work history in either a K-8 school library or in the children's department of a public library.
• Some positions may require bilingual skills in a designated second language (Spanish).
