REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: LIBRARY MEDIA TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE (LMTA) RCSD takes pride in our dedicated workforce and strong connection with our students, families, and community. Basic Functions Under the direction of the District Librarian incumbents in this position will provide mentoring, inservice education and trouble-shooting support for library media software and hardware technical problems. Under the supervision of the District Librarian and the site principal, assist with media technology activities in a school environment; process and shelve media materials and assist students and staff in the selection of appropriate materials. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Provide support to district library media assistants under the direction of the District Librarian. Responsibilities shall include the following: I. Assist with the training and professional development of school library media assistants, particularly in the areas of new and/or upgrades of software programs such as Alexandria and PowerSchool which are necessary for the smooth functioning of Redwood City School District's Library Media Centers. This will include attending training sessions with the technology department and organizing and presenting workshops for Library Media Assistants in newly adopted software programs. Provide troubleshooting services for software and equipment and initiate help tickets for equipment that needs to be repaired by the Technology Department. Communicate to Library Media Assistants various methods and techniques used for machine readable cataloging, MARC records, budget monitoring using Excel, library program activities, lesson planning, and presentations using PowerPoint or overheads. Serve as a mentor to a designated group of Library Media Assistants. Provide exemplary library media service and programming in the following areas: Organize and maintain the routine operation of a school library media center including maintenance and weeding of the collection; receive, process, circulate and shelve print and non-print materials according to accepted library procedures. Assist teachers in teaching students basic information literacy skills; i.e., access, use and evaluate print and non-print materials to improve literacy. Assist students and teachers in locating and selecting appropriate materials; assist students with special class theme projects or conduct story time as required. Maintain routine records related to library activities including circulation of books, monies collected and lost materials. Schedule library media times for classes. Train, assign and monitor work of volunteer and student helpers. Maintain the library media center in a clean and orderly condition providing an environment conducive to learning and literacy; assist in maintaining the discipline of students. Create displays to promote reading and library media units and themes . Qualifications Recent experience providing library media services in a school setting. Demonstrated skills in methods, practices, terminology and procedures used in a library media center. Ability to provide leadership, mentoring, and technical assistance to Library Media Assistants under the direction of the District Librarian. Demonstrated experience with automated online public access catalog, district student databases, integration of circulation system with district student data base. Demonstrated abilities to use and troubleshoot equipment including computers, scanners, digital cameras and printers. Demonstrated ability to operate and trouble shoot automated system and peripheral equipment as well as provide guidance in equipment and software programs used by Library Media Assistants. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Candidate must possess the ability to work well with children and adults using tact, patience and courtesy. Education And Experience l. Education Graduation from an accredited college's Associate of Arts program in library media technology or holds a certificate from a program in Library Media Technology or has completed a library media program from an accredited college combined with at least 2 years school library media experience. At least two years successful work history in either a K-8 school library or in the children's department of a public library.
