Entry-level position in the Librarian job family. Works with the Library Management Team and key stakeholders to develop policies, procedures, workflows, and sustainable approaches for library programs and services. Executes projects with oversight from senior Librarians or Directors, manages library resources, and may supervise Junior Library Associates.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and executes a variety of library programs and initiatives.
  • Evaluates basic statistical data and prepares reports and surveys for library management, local government, or customers.
  • Processes, creates, and edits bibliographic and item records for the library catalog.
  • Maintains and updates the library’s social media presence and webpage; may support social media for other branches.
  • Provides reference and computer assistance to patrons.
  • Serves on committees and may chair them.
  • Handles opening/closing duties, cash management, and daily cash reports.
  • Manages the collection development process.
  • Acts as a proficient readers’ advisor.
  • May supervise Junior Library Associates, including performance management, evaluations, hiring, training, and timesheet approval.
  • Adheres to the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, supporting freedom of access and patron discretion.
  • Follows legal and policy requirements for patron privacy and record custodianship.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MLS or MLIS degree required.
  • One year of librarian experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of online library databases and services.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move within the library, lift items up to 25 pounds (occasionally up to 35 pounds), such as files, books, and stacks of paper.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while focusing on computer screens or detailed paperwork.
