About the Role

Manassas Park City Library is seeking a Library Director to support the LS&S mission, vision, and values through exceptional leadership and dedicated customer focus. The Director ensures contract requirements are met in a single-location library system, builds and leads a committed team, and nurtures communications with local officials while managing the customer relationship in partnership with the VP of Library Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage with integrity, honesty, and knowledge to promote the culture, values, and mission of LS&S and create thriving libraries in the community.
  • Evaluate library environments and key operational indicators to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Report regularly to the VP of Library Operations and meet weekly via Zoom.
  • Coach library staff to achieve operational goals and monitor/manage staffing levels.
  • Develop the library team to deliver excellent customer service and patron experiences.
  • Evaluate and support the performance of library staff and implement action plans to meet operational and organizational objectives.
  • Stay current with library trends, issues, and technology, as well as political, economic, and demographic issues affecting library services and advanced programming.
  • Plan and execute local, regional, and company initiatives to achieve operational excellence and business results.
  • Utilize management information tools and analyze financial reports and library-related data (usage, demographics, trends) to address system trends and issues.
  • Oversee the selection, acquisition, and processing of library materials within budgetary limitations.
  • Manage the local customer relationship (city/county officials, governing boards, library boards).
  • Solicit feedback from clients, stakeholders, and patrons to understand community needs.
  • Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with legislation and regulations.
  • Oversee human resources policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Administer the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, supporting freedom of access and client discretion of materials.
  • Follow legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MLIS degree is required.
  • One to three years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience analyzing and applying financial reports and library-related data (usage, demographics, trends).
  • Basic knowledge of programming and financial management.
  • Experience in a role requiring frequent patron interaction, fulfilling requests, and addressing patron issues, questions, and suggestions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for long periods and maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
  • Occasionally lift items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds, such as files, books, and other materials.

Pay

Salary range: $75,000 - $85,000
