About the role

The Kitsap Regional Library seeks an exceptional Library Associate for the Bainbridge Island branch. The position provides information and circulation services, assists patrons with inquiries and reader's advisory, supports programming, and acts as designated site support.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the service desk, assist patrons with questions, support programming, and resolve patron code of conduct issues.
  • Register customers for library cards, troubleshoot patron accounts, and assist with computer use and digital resources.
  • Assist patrons with facility adjustments, fines, and fee disputes, and maintain a clean, welcoming, and safe library environment.
  • Support volunteers, represent the library at events, and implement training on circulation and operational tasks.
  • Perform designated site support duties, including branch opening and closing procedures, and communicate with offsite contacts regarding changes to staff schedules.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required, with a minimum of two years' experience in customer service and frontline library service.
  • Additional experience related to the duties of the position may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Qualifications

  • Passionate about providing excellent library service and developing strong patron relationships.
  • Ability to sort and file alphanumerically, perform basic mathematical computations, and navigate library resources and patron accounts.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedural instructions accurately and establish effective working relationships.
  • Physical demands include light to medium physical demands, sitting, operating office equipment, and moving objects up to 35 pounds.

Skills

  • Knowledge of library policies and procedures.
  • Ability to navigate library resources and patron accounts using Polaris, the Integrated Library System (ILS).
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and utilize computer software and specialized programs.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving information, technology, work procedures, and library services.

  • Compensation range for this position is $24.79-34.32 per hour.

Schedule

This is a full-time, non-exempt 40-hour per week position. Schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library.
