Library - Assistant Director

About the role

The Sam T. Wilson Library in Arlington, Tennessee, is seeking an Assistant Director to lead and support the library's operations. Reporting to the Library Director, this role involves managing the library team, overseeing daily operations, and engaging with the community.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Library Director in managing the library team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
• Serves as a leader in day-to-day operations, developing and implementing programs and events.
• Manages the library collection and ensures its growth and maintenance.
• Tracks and reports on library success, value, and activity.
• Builds and maintains the library's brand through social media and other platforms.
• Writes and implements program grants and provides effective communication to staff and the public.
• Ensures compliance with human resources policies and procedures.
• Resolves patron issues and provides feedback on community needs.
• Assists with the Library Director as needed.

Requirements

• ALA-accredited Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science degree.
• Minimum of 2 years of public library experience.
• Prior experience with Polaris (ILS).
• Experience tracking usage statistics, data collection, and Excel reports.
• Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Technical skills, including familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Suite, and various technologies.

$53,000 - $55,000

Schedule

Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
