About the role
The Library Aide supports students, volunteers, and staff in managing the library's resources and operations.
Responsibilities
- Assists in processing, circulating, and shelving audio-visual materials, books, and magazines.
- Reports student attendance and maintains discipline in library areas under the guidance of the library media specialist.
- Maintains an online computer catalog to facilitate materials circulation.
- Uses word processing and multimedia skills to ensure a smooth and timely flow of library operations.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of all computer and audiovisual equipment in the media center.
- Aids students, staff, and the library media specialist in locating and using various reference materials and instructional software.
- Assists in annual computerized inventory of library media materials and equipment, compiling statistical reports.
- Maintains current inventory of supplies and ensures the library's neatness and attractiveness.
- Trains and utilizes student and volunteer aides, ensuring their safety and proper conduct.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships with colleagues and students.
- Maintains confidentiality and respects confidential information at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of library technical procedures, including alphabetizing, filing rules, and Dewey Decimal classification.
- Familiarity with Marc Record formatting and multi-platform computer networks, or demonstrated aptitude in library catalog administration.
- Good human relations skills with an ability to communicate courteously.
- Experience working with children is preferred.
- A willingness to take direction and learn new skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Pay
$18.91 to $20.84 per hour, based on the Negotiated Agreement.
Schedule
186 days (178 days same as student schedule), 3.5 hours per day excluding lunch. Work year to be established by the Board of Education.
