Under direct supervision, interacts with a wide variety of internal and external customers to support general library operations and assists with lending and collecting library material.

Pay

$14.56 to $19.51 per hour. Pay typically begins at the minimum of the pay range, and employees are eligible for annual merit and COLA increases per District policy.

Schedule

Part-time, 12 hours per week:

  • Saturday 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Wednesday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
  • Thursday 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

This schedule may be subject to change based on the needs of the Library District.

Responsibilities

  • Sorts and reshelves returned books, periodicals, and other materials.
  • Assists customers with check-out and check-in.
  • Performs Integrated Library System (ILS) functions and supports library resources including printers, copiers, return machines, self-checks, and scanners.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from internal and external customers regarding branch procedures, practices, and collections.
  • Assists customers in locating library collections using Library of Congress Classifications.
  • Provides instruction on the use of library resources such as printers, copiers, return machines, self-checks, and scanners.
  • Supports library programs.
  • Performs routine clerical tasks such as answering phones and organizing files.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of tenth (10th) grade in secondary education.
  • Six months of customer service experience (preferred).

  • Creating library cards and assisting with accounts, placing holds

  • Basic office procedures, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic
  • Ability to learn basic public library principles, practices, and techniques
  • Ability to learn the Library of Congress Classification System
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion

  • Maintaining effective interpersonal relationships

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and stooping.
  • Lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight (20-50 pounds).
