Library Aide

Starting hourly rate: $11.90. Variable schedule, approximately 15–20 hours per week (daytime, evening, and weekend hours).

About the role

To promote the mission and values of the Greene County Public Library, carry out objectives and goals of the strategic plan, and better serve the community by performing routine shelving, organizing, and basic repair of library materials.

Responsibilities

• Organize and shelve library materials
• Pull requested library materials from shelves
• File magazines and maintain the magazine collection
• Keep shelves orderly and visually appealing
• Clean, recover, and make minor repairs to library materials
• File movies or mixed materials as needed
• Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and training to maintain required knowledge
• Stay informed by reading email, minutes, the staff website, and attending staff meetings
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

• Ability to read, alphabetize, and sort items in numerical or chronological order
• Ability to shelve materials accurately and efficiently
• Strong comprehension of spoken and written communications
• Ability to follow directions, perform routine tasks, and work independently
• Punctual, dependable, tactful, and courteous

Environmental conditions

Work is performed in an office-like setting with considerable mobility: light lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, and sitting at various desks and service points. Evening and weekend hours, including Sundays, may be required; schedules may change based on library needs.
