Responsibilities
- Provides outreach and reference services and creates, enhances, and furthers services offered to faculty, students, alumni, the local bar, and the public.
- Serves as a technologically mediated platform for institutional repository services, web, and LMS outreach.
- Provides legal research, reference assistance, and instruction both in-person and virtually.
- Manages collection services for all legal materials, primarily through the Collection Development Committee.
- Learns and stays current with best practices in legal research methods, strategies, teaching, and learning theories and follows law practice trends and technology developments.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities, including the ability to effectively communicate with students to help them achieve their educational goals.
- Promotes library resources and services to students and faculty in support of the mission of the College of Law.
- Promotes student engagement with the library by providing classroom guest lectures upon request, participating in orientation, working with co-curricular organizations, and conducting workshops and research instruction on legal research topics.
- Instructs and supports students and faculty in the use of Westlaw, Lexis, learning management systems and other electronic resources.
- Leverages innovative and emerging technologies for library and law school use, assisting law faculty with using these tools to enhance classroom and experiential learning or the scholarly communications experience.
- Develops instructional modules in a variety of formats, including creating and maintaining assigned research guides and tutorials in the law library’s online collection.
- Serves on local, regional, and national law library related organizations and committees.
Requirements
- Ability to work weekend and evening hours and some holidays is required.
- Demonstrated experience with technology tools, social networking sites, and law library software and databases.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; database and data entry skills.
- Decision-making, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of duties and responsibilities.
- Excellent organization, planning and customer services skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA Accredited Law School.
- Master of Library Science (M.L.S.)/ Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) degree from an ALA Accredited Library School (preferred); OR current enrollment in a M.L.S./M.L.I.S. program and completion within two (2) years of date of hire; OR successful application to and enrollment in a M.L.S./M.L.I.S. program within six (6) months of date of hire AND completion of said program within two (2) years of enrollment.
- One (1) to two (2) years of related law library or legal research experience, or relevant coursework.
Skills
- Knowledge of Westlaw, Lexis, other research databases, HTML, CSS, RSS, and AV editing software.
