About the role
The LGBTQ+ Health Specialist coordinates educational and peer support programs at the Boston Living Center, focusing on substance misuse and HIV prevention for racial and ethnic minority males at risk for HIV/AIDS. Services include harm reduction counseling, syringe services, and PrEP support.
Responsibilities
- Support clients in housing navigation and resources to barrier remediation
- Affirmatively connect members to services through individual and group support and referrals
- Provide PrEP education and support access to PrEP from partner health centers
- Facilitate verbal and written harm reduction counseling related to safer injection practices, wound care, overdose prevention, sexual health, vein and abscess care, and infectious disease transmission prevention
- Facilitate groups and workshops addressing health navigation, social support, and other relevant issues
- Follow up with members through milieu support and follow-up phone calls and wellness checks
- Coordinate recruitment and retention into peer support and education programming
- Collaborate with partner agencies for guest presentations on various topics
- Comply with agency protocols for data collection and record management
- Attend weekly supervision, monthly staff meetings, and professional development training
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Phlebotomy and specimen collection training/certification or willingness to be trained
- Working knowledge of HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, homelessness, substance use, STIs, and sex work
- Competency working with diverse populations
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Prior experience in a milieu or drop-in environment serving homeless and/or people who use drugs
- Proficient computer skills
- CPR certification (obtained upon hire)
- TB screening (obtained upon hire)
- Two years of experience in harm reduction, community health, or human services
- Conversational Spanish
- Nonviolent crisis intervention, de-escalation, and milieu management experience

Pay
$26.00/hr
Schedule
Full-time (40 hours) Monday - Friday 7:30am-3:30pm. On-site.
