About the Role

Montefiore Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) Level I. This is a staff position located in the Bronx, New York, with night shifts on alternate weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership skills in the coordination and delivery of patient care:
    • Coordinates an interdisciplinary plan of care.
    • Ensures 100% of assigned patients have a documented plan of care.
    • Completes patient care assignments 100% of the time.
    • Ensures the interdisciplinary plan of care aligns with accepted Length of Stay (LOS) parameters.
    • Delegates aspects of patient care to team members based on their capabilities and responsibilities.
    • Negotiates with team members if unable to fulfill role responsibilities and escalates as per policy.
    • Establishes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
    • Assumes charge nurse responsibilities.
    • Participates in orienting and developing associates through mentorship and preceptorship.
    • Assesses and documents patient/family wishes related to care decisions.
  • Systematically assesses the healthcare of patients and families:
    • Completes 100% of admission assessments within 8 hours.
    • Documents care reflecting an interdisciplinary team approach.
    • Ensures documentation reflects systematic and continuous data collection.
    • Documents teaching and learning needs of patients and families prior to discharge.
    • Assesses, evaluates, and documents patient responses to nursing and interdisciplinary interventions, including teaching.
    • Initiates a teaching and discharge plan for 100% of assigned patients within 24 hours of admission.
    • Modifies the plan of care through prioritization of patient/family needs and interdisciplinary orders.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills to problem-solve and initiate clinical decision-making:
    • Takes action to optimize patient outcomes.
    • Participates in identifying, investigating, and resolving risk management, quality care, and ethical issues.
    • Incorporates effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, and consensus-building into daily practice.
  • Evaluates patient progress toward health goals and modifies the plan of care accordingly:
    • Identifies variances to the plan of care and initiates appropriate interventions.
    • Documents patient and family responses to interventions and modifies the plan of care as needed.
    • Reviews and updates the plan of care daily to reflect the current status of the patient.
    • Consistently participates and communicates in daily interdisciplinary team (IDT) rounds.
  • Develops, coordinates, and provides direct care for specific patient assignments:
    • Provides patient-focused care.
    • Incorporates standards of practice, critical pathways, and age-specific guidelines into the plan of care.
    • Assesses potential and actual changes in the level of care required.
    • Develops a plan of care within 24 hours of admission and includes patient/family in care planning.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients and families:
    • Orients patients and families to the environment, ensuring comprehension.
    • Administers medication according to policy.
    • Responds appropriately to urgent and emergent situations.
    • Utilizes and documents the use of restraints according to hospital guidelines.
    • Uses equipment in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Provides comprehensive direct patient care:
    • Utilizes knowledge of nursing, research, and evidence-based practice in care and clinical judgment.
    • Administers care consistent with standards and considers bio-psychosocial and spiritual needs.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members:
    • Defends and preserves patient rights related to care, information, knowledge, and privacy.
    • Demonstrates respect for cultural diversity among coworkers, patients, and families.
    • Incorporates principles of patient-focused care in daily practice.
    • Recognizes the family as defined by the patient.
    • Communicates the interdisciplinary plan of care to 100% of assigned patients and families within 24 hours of admission and daily.
    • Identifies patient satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the plan of care and implements conflict resolution skills.
    • Assesses and documents advanced care directives for 100% of assigned patients.
    • Establishes collaborative and collegial relationships with healthcare team members.
    • Documents legibly.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining competencies and participates in activities contributing to growth and development:
    • Provides examples of ongoing professional development.
    • Contributes to the growth and development of staff and students through mentorship and education.
    • Recognizes professional responsibility extends beyond one's own patient population.
    • Attends at least one hospital committee meeting or in-service annually and shares information with coworkers.
    • Demonstrates active participation in unit-based performance improvement initiatives.
  • Is responsible and accountable for own practice:
    • Ensures compliance with written policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
    • Incorporates critical thinking and problem-solving skills into nursing practice.

    • Maintains licensure, current registration, and mandatory certifications (e.g., BLS).

Requirements

  • ASN in Nursing required; BSN in Nursing preferred.
  • Less than 1 year of work experience in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval systems (medium proficiency).
  • Effective English communication skills, both written and oral (medium proficiency).
  • Registered Nurse New York State License for Registered Professional Nurse and current registration or valid permit to practice in New York State as an RN (upon hire).
  • Certification in specialty (upon hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Training (upon hire).
  • Infection Control Training (upon hire).
  • OHS Fit Test and Annual Assessment required.

Schedule

  • Night shift: 7 PM - 7:30 AM.
  • Alternate weekends.
  • Scheduled daily hours: 11.5 hours.

Pay

Hourly rate: $62.63. For positions that have only a rate listed, the displayed rate is the hiring rate but could be subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education, or other relevant factors.
