About the Role
The Reserve Police Officer is a sworn position that functions as a part-time Police Officer. Reserve Officers work under the direction of a regular full-time officer or a supervisor depending on their assignment and/or Reserve classification.
Responsibilities
- Operate and use Patrol Vehicle, Police Radio, Firearm, Handcuffs, Baton and Computer Keyboard.
- Communicate verbally and in writing and engage in physical activity such as lifting, carrying or dragging heavy persons or objects, climbing or jumping over obstacles, and running.
- Enforce local, State and National laws; patrol the City; provide first aid; respond to citizen-reported incidents; conduct interviews at scenes of accidents; conduct crime scene investigations; arrest and detain persons; book evidence; make reports of incidents to direct supervisor; control traffic; investigate reported crimes, both at the scene and follow-up; and appear in court as a witness for the City.
Requirements
- Valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited Police Academy.
- Possession of a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate.
- Level 1 Reserve Status.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of police activities and procedures.
- Ability and maturity to deal effectively with the public.
- Able to prepare clear and accurate reports and present them verbally when required.
- Able to qualify with a handgun.
Desirable Experience and Training
- Two years of college with major course work in Police Science or some other suitable combination of experience and education.
Deferred Compensation (Retirement Plan)
The City contributes (3.75%) of your gross salary and withholds (3.75%) of your gross salary per pay period for a total of (7.5%) of your salary that is deposited into a tax-deferred retirement savings plan that can be withdrawn and used upon separation from the City or saved and invested towards future retirement.
Paid Sick Leave
After (30) days of employment, will accrue one (1) hour of sick leave for every (30) hours worked, and you can use up to (40) hours or (5 days) of paid sick leave in one year.
