About the role

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lethality Engineer to join our Aerospace Systems Engineering team located in Huntsville, AL. The successful candidate will lead the implementation and use of lethality tools and analyses in support of our weapon system design and development activities.

Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision with general instructions from a senior level engineer or manager:

  • Support design and development of new weapon systems including cruise missiles, air defense missiles, gun-launched projectiles, and hypersonic glide weapons as part of GA-EMS' Prime Contractor role.
  • Support definition of lethal mechanism/warhead design requirements to meet mission objectives and lethality criteria.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary group with Mechanical Engineers, GN&C Engineers, Modeling and Sim Engineers, and Systems Engineers to conceptualize and analyze blast, blast-frag, and kinetic energy warheads in an environment where requirements are often changing.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of penetration effects, fragment and penetrator sizing, explosives, lethality, survivability, and use of government-furnished threat models and lethality analysis tools such as the Advanced Joint Effectiveness Model (AJEM).

Qualifications

Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, seven or more years of experience with a master's degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals; the capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact; and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment.
  • Approximately 15% of time dedicated to travel is possible.
  • Must possess an active Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance with ability to upgrade to Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access, if required.

Pay

  • Salary range: 105,890 - 189,545
