About the role

The overall purpose of this position is to ensure the smooth operation of machinery and mechanical equipment in the Des Moines facility. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting equipment breakdowns.

Responsibilities

  • Work overtime hours as needed on breakdowns and project work.
  • Monitor and maintain area 5S safety requirements.
  • Complete basic preventative maintenance tasks such as greasing bearings, replacing saw blades, maintaining oil levels, etc.
  • Work on either electrical or mechanical issues as they arise within the facility.
  • Aptitude and drive to learn to work on both electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Assist in the disassembly and reassembly of machinery and equipment.
  • Prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to complete all physical requirements.

Requirements

  • No formal education required, but a 2-year technical degree is preferred.
  • None required for experience, but 1-2 years is preferred.
  • Must have an electrical or mechanical background and demonstrate a working knowledge of the field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift, overhead crane, and additional licenses as required.
  • Read, write, and do basic math; knowledge of safety regulations and procedures; either electrical or mechanical aptitude; ability to utilize the Microsoft Suite and applicable maintenance software.
  • Good knowledge of safe rigging principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and “team building” skills; excellent organizational and motivational abilities; ethical and respectful, open communication, can initiate dialog to help find solutions, team player, can-do attitude, can respectfully share information to help develop and adhere to best practices.

Qualifications

  • Physical requirements to perform essential functions: ability to lift and carry 30 to 50 lbs, work up to 12-hour shifts, operate hand and power tools, remain calm and act responsibly during emergencies, lift and manipulate heavy equipment, work around grease, oil, dirt, fumes, and in hot or cold environments, work in awkward positions such as bending, twisting, and kneeling, walk or stand up to 75% of the workday, climb ladders and work at heights, frequent bending, twisting, squatting, grasping, reaching/stretching, walking/standing.

Skills

  • Read, write, and do basic math.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings related to electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and schematic prints and drawings.
  • Ability to operate overhead crane and forklift.
  • Good knowledge of safe rigging principles.
  • Ability to utilize the Microsoft Suite and applicable maintenance software.
