Legal Counsel Senior

This role requires associates to be in-office 3 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. Alternate locations may be considered if candidates reside within a commuting distance from an office. About the role

The Legal Counsel Senior is responsible for completing a variety of routine and non-routine legal assignments and intermediate level projects independently, using professional legal concepts and principles in accordance with company and departmental objectives to solve challenging legal issues in practical ways. Works autonomously with regular collaboration and reporting to management. At this level, the associate has developed specific technical depth and/or breadth of organizational and industry legal issues.

Responsibilities

• Works with more experienced attorneys to represent the organization in legal duties.
• Contributes to overall results of an SBU or CEE unit and/or department.
• May support the development of other attorneys and paralegals by providing guidance on technical and tactical procedures for lower-level attorneys.
• Assists Associate General Counsel with review of complex commercial contracts, including research services agreements, clinical trial site agreements, confidentiality agreements, data licensing agreements, data use agreements, data collaboration agreements, and other research-related legal documents and materials.
• Counsels internal stakeholders on restrictions and permitted data uses for general research studies, public health initiatives, and health plan operations studies.
• Proactively supports compliance partners with legal issues and analysis related to clinical trial agreements and clinical research organization collaborations.
• Counsels internal stakeholders on external communication, presentation, and publication issues, and assists with drafting consulting agreements and other legal documents.
• Handles other legal matters and legal projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Requires a JD, current license to practice law, and a minimum of 6 years of specific industry and/or technical legal experience post licensure; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills

• Healthcare industry experience.

Pay

For candidates working in person or virtually in Illinois, the salary range for this specific position is $160,336.00 to $240,504.00. The salary offered is based on a number of legitimate, non-discriminatory factors set by the Company, including geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level.

Schedule

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week. Specific requirements and expectations for time onsite will be discussed as part of the hiring process.
