About the role
The Department of Justice and the United States Attorneys' Offices provide legal assistance and office support services to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs).
Responsibilities
- Helps in the preparation of charts and other materials for trial preparation and presentations.
- Types and formats correspondence and forms.
- Maintains file systems and obtains needed information from files or general reference sources.
- Reviews incoming material and determines the need for assembly and preparation of legal documents.
- Requests and monitors fund obligations for litigation expenses.
- Reviews bills and invoices and submits them for payment.
- Maintains a calendar of assigned active cases and tracks filing, hearing, and trial dates.
- Schedules conferences and interviews and informs the AUSA of pending dates and deadlines.
- Develops and maintains a suspense system for ongoing cases and summarizes the case status.
- Conducts document searches, organizes documents, and coordinates document production.
- Provides trial support by preparing complaints, motions, subpoenas, orders, or other hearing and/or trial documents.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
- Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- Must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifications
- GS-5: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level; or four years of education above the high school level; or a combination of both specialized experience and education as explained below.
- GS-6: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.
- GS-7: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level.
