About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support our litigation team. The ideal candidate will assist one attorney in trial preparation, drafting and proofreading pleadings and orders, organizing exhibits, and managing case files. This role requires strong legal fundamentals, excellent written communication, and the ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced litigation environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and proofread pleadings, motions, orders, and correspondence for accuracy and compliance with court rules.
- Aid litigators and attorneys with trial preparation, including organizing and labeling exhibits, preparing exhibit binders and trial notebooks.
- Manage case files and document control: maintain electronic and physical filing systems, index documents, and ensure confidentiality.
- Cook with court clerks, opposing counsel, and service providers to file documents, schedule hearings, and arrange deliveries.
- Draft routine legal documents and correspondence under attorney supervision and perform legal research assistance as needed.
- Summarize deposition transcripts, discovery responses, and medical records; prepare chronologies and case summaries.
- Support the trial team during hearings and trials with courtroom logistics, exhibit presentation, and real-time document retrieval.
- Proofread all outgoing documents for grammar, formatting, and citation accuracy; verify citations and references.
- Track deadlines, court dates, and statute of limitations; prepare calendars and reminders for attorneys.
- Assist with billing entries, timekeeping, and administrative tasks related to case management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 2+ years of experience supporting litigation attorneys in a law firm environment
- Strong knowledge of litigation processes, court procedures, and handling pleadings, orders, and exhibits
- Excellent proofreading and writing skills, with attention to grammar, formatting, and legal citation
- Experience preparing trial exhibits, trial binders, and supporting courtroom needs
- Proficiency with legal research tools and case management software; familiarity with e-filing systems a plus
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
- Professional demeanor, strong communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and support staff
