Legal and Paralegal Studies (A.A.S.)
Metropolitan Community College (MCC) offers a Legal and Paralegal Studies program at the MCC-Penn Valley campus. The program provides an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and a Paralegal Practice Certificate for students with prior degrees.
About the Program
The Legal and Paralegal Studies program prepares students for careers as paralegals or legal assistants, who perform substantive legal work under the supervision of attorneys. Paralegals work in law firms, courts, government agencies, and various legal specialties, including litigation, criminal law, family law, contracts, bankruptcy, intellectual property, real estate, and immigration.
The program can be completed in two years of full-time study and offers start terms in Fall or Spring. Courses are available through a combination of online and virtual formats, allowing for remote completion. The program culminates in an internship where students gain hands-on experience in a legal environment under the supervision of a lawyer or judge.
