About the role
Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in eight (8) cities across the U.S., is seeking a full-time exempt Legal and Business Research Analyst to join one of its offices in St. Louis, Dallas, Los Angeles, or Chicago.
Responsibilities
- Performs on-demand legal, general, and business research for attorneys, paralegals, and support staff, including complex case, statute, legislative history, news, public records, and company research.
- Analyzes and communicates findings from legal and non-legal resources in a clear, concise manner.
- Conducts background research on potential clients, industry trends, and subject-specific topics in support of client matters and business development initiatives.
- Maintains working knowledge of the firm’s library collections, online databases, and interlibrary loan availability; arranges interlibrary loans with law firms and institutional libraries as needed.
- Assists with the development and maintenance of library resources on the firm’s intranet and contributes to collection development by evaluating new digital resources.
- Develops and delivers library orientations and research training programs, including supporting documentation and training materials.
- Monitors emerging trends in research, technology, and competitive intelligence; collaborates with legal database representatives and participates in professional groups to improve and expand research services.
Requirements
- Demonstrates proficiency in legal research databases including Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, and other commercial electronic research platforms, as well as publicly available internet resources and artificial intelligence tools.
- Demonstrates proficiency in analytic platforms such as Lex Machina and Westlaw litigation analytics.
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent professional experience required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a legal library required. Private law firm experience preferred; experience in a corporate, court, academic, or public library setting will be considered, provided it includes legal library research experience.
