Legal AI Engineer - Minneapolis, MN
About the role
We are seeking a Legal AI Engineer to help design and scale how AI is applied across the firm’s legal and business workflows. This role sits within the Research & Knowledge Management (RKM) team as part of Legal Operations and partners closely with attorneys, practice groups, Legal Operations, and IT.
Responsibilities
Partner with attorneys, practice groups, and operations teams to understand their workflows, pain points and goals, and identify high-value opportunities for AI, prompt support, and automation.
Design and build AI agents, workflows, prompt-enabled solutions, and other AI tools using platforms such as Copilot, Harvey, and similar legal and enterprise AI tools.
Advise attorneys and staff on prompt design, including how to frame legal questions, provide context, evaluate outputs, and refine prompts for accuracy, reliability, and repeatable results.
Develop, test, and maintain prompt libraries, playbooks, and examples that help legal professionals use AI tools effectively in day-to-day work.
Plan and run prompt optimization workshops, office hours, and hands-on support sessions for attorneys and staff using AI tools.
Convert institutional knowledge into reusable assets (prompts, prompt libraries, workflows, decision models, and training materials).
Build automations and integrations using tools like Microsoft Power Automate to connect AI capabilities with the firm’s existing data, systems, and document workflows.
Translate legal processes into scalable, reusable solutions rather than one-off fixes, with an eye toward firm-wide adoption.
Document solutions clearly and partner with the Legal AI Program Manager and Research Librarians to train attorneys and staff on how to use AI tools, prompts, and workflows effectively.
Monitor performance, gather feedback, and iterate to improve accuracy, usability and adoption over time.
Stay current on the evolving GenAI landscape and recommend new tools, prompt practices, and approaches.
Champion responsible, secure, and ethical use of AI within the firm’s confidentiality and professional responsibility obligations.
Requirements
J.D. or a substantive legal background or legal technology background is strongly preferred.
Experience implementing scalable AI tools in legal workflows (e.g., designing and optimizing prompts, building agents, evaluating outputs, and translating feedback into improvements).
