About the role
This position involves providing counseling and outreach services to Veterans, their dependents, and beneficiaries regarding VA and non-VA benefits. The incumbent will assist with various programs including compensation and pension benefits, home loan eligibility, education, health care, life insurance, burial benefits, vocational rehabilitation services, and Social Security Administration programs.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates counseling sessions with Veterans, their dependents, and beneficiaries, offering guidance on VA and non-VA benefits.
- Explains VBA rating decisions and provides detailed explanations using extensive knowledge of VA benefits and services.
- Assists with programs such as compensation and pension benefits, home loan eligibility, education, health care, life insurance, burial benefits, vocational rehabilitation services, and Social Security Administration programs.
- Prepares technical correspondence to Veterans and their dependents, providing benefit information, representation rights, and responses to inquiries.
- Explains pertinent legal provisions, regulations, and related administrative practices and their application to specific cases.
- Serves as or with the Outreach Coordinator for specific Veteran groups, resolving issues related to benefits.
- Completes claim and appeal related work, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
Requirements
The position requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 52 weeks of experience at the GS-09 level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The incumbent must have the ability to work independently and handle customer service responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Specialized experience: Demonstrated experience in providing benefits counseling and claims processing, including orating to diverse audiences and performing research of relevant laws and regulations.
- Education substitution: Two and a half years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or a combination of education and experience totaling 100% of the required experience.
Work Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, 07:30 a.m. - 04:00 p.m. PST. Tour is subject to change based on program needs.
