About the role
The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality research and education in transport engineering while shaping the future of sustainable, intelligent, and connected transport systems.
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW seeks an emerging or established academic to join as a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in a Teaching and Research role.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research in areas including network modeling, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs), their supporting infrastructure and systems, and AI-based traffic control, monitoring, and maintenance systems.
- Deliver high-impact outcomes and strengthen the School’s growing reputation in transport engineering and mobility innovation.
- Engage with industry and government partners, contribute to work-integrated learning initiatives, and address emerging challenges in transport engineering and mobility systems.
Requirements
- A PhD and/or relevant work experience with network modelling, Intelligent Transport and Systems (ITS), Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs), their infrastructure and systems, and AI-based traffic control systems.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development, and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g., relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
- Experience with industry or work-integrated learning (desirable).
- Ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
- High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
Qualifications

- Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
- Experience with industry or work-integrated learning.

Benefits
- Salary range: AUD $127,947 to $150,830 per annum + 17% superannuation for Lecturer (Level B)
- Salary range: AUD $155,403 to $178,290 per annum + 17% superannuation for Senior Lecturer (Level C)

Schedule
- Full-time
