Primary Function of Organizational Unit The mission of the Department of Language and Literature at North Carolina Central University is to engage students in languages, cultures, literatures, linguistics, and writing. We foster students’ analytical and creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication strategies to prepare students for their responsibilities in civic and professional life. The department offers an English M.A., B.A.s in English, Spanish, and Interdisciplinary Studies, and minors in Spanish, German, Philosophy, Digital Humanities, Literature, and Writing. We host the Spanish Club, the Ex Umbra literary magazine, the Eagle Creators Society, and several other student clubs and honor societies. Language and Literature faculty contribute to many interdisciplinary initiatives including Women’s and Gender Studies, Global Studies, Service Learning, undergraduate research, and Digital Humanities. Primary Purpose of Position The primary purpose of this position is to teach first-year writing courses, with additional courses in advanced composition or literature assigned according to department need and instructor’s areas of expertise. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Understanding of Composition Pedagogy; familiarity with Canvas; proficiency with MS Word. Minimum Education/Experience M.A. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field. Ph.D. preferred.
