Part-time faculty position within the Department of Music, College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.

About the role

This position involves teaching applied saxophone lessons and may include instruction of other courses or coaching ensembles (e.g., saxophone quartet). Responsibilities also encompass student recruitment and potential attendance at departmental studio hour and instrumental seminar on Thursdays from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; deliver consistent, interactive applied lessons.
  • Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
  • Collaborate with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
  • Be available outside of class to assist students (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
  • Adhere to university faculty handbook policies, including timely record keeping, fair evaluation of student performance, and prompt feedback.
  • Maintain respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
  • Teach weekly applied saxophone lessons in person; ability to deliver instruction both in person and/or online as needed.
  • Incorporate instructional technology into teaching.
  • Flexibility to teach day, evening, and weekend sections as needed.
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Adhere to all applicable university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Occasional attendance at departmental recital hour, instrumental seminar, juries, hearings, and recitals as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Music with a focus on Saxophone Performance or related field.
  • At least two (2) years of experience teaching applied lessons in saxophone.
  • Evidence of significant performing experience on saxophone.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College/university-level teaching experience.
  • Doctoral degree in Saxophone Performance or related field.

Pay

$900 per student for Master's degree holders, $1,300 per student for Doctorate degree holders.
