Lecturer in Interdisciplinary Studies

Position Overview

Instructors will be appointed on a faculty wage basis to teach BIS courses in interdisciplinary fields such as: Sociology, Political Science, Music, Business, Humanities and Fine Arts, Psychology, Communication, Philosophy, English, History, Theology / Religious Studies, and Project Management. Courses are delivered in-person only at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in Troy, VA. Instruction is scheduled one day (3 hours) during the week at either 7:45am-10:45am OR 1pm-4pm.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in the discipline or a closely related field
• Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline
• Ability to teach in-person at correctional facility sites in Virginia
• Commitment to teaching adult and non-traditional learners in an interdisciplinary degree program

Required Qualifications

• Terminal degree in the discipline or related field
• College-level teaching experience
• Professional experience relevant to the discipline
• Demonstrated ability to implement inclusive and innovative teaching strategies

Preferred Qualifications

• Terminal degree in the discipline or related field
• Experience working with adult learners, underserved populations, or incarcerated students

Employment Terms

• This is a part-time, non-tenure track faculty wage appointment
• No benefits and no expectation of renewal
• Salary is commensurate with education and experience
• All appointments are contingent upon successful completion of background checks, education verification, and compliance with correctional facility security requirements
