About the role
The School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol seeks an outstanding Lecturer in Human Geography to join one of the UK’s leading geography departments. This teaching-focused post provides capacity during a Leverhulme Research Fellowship, offering the chance to contribute to an intellectually vibrant, collegial community renowned for excellence in teaching and internationally recognised research.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, research-informed teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate geography programmes, covering core Human Geography areas and specialist topics aligned with School needs.
- Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops; design assessments; provide high-quality feedback.
- Supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate research projects.
- Develop project-based and experiential learning, including qualitative methods teaching and dissertation skills.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curricula and the student learning experience.
- Undertake academic administration and provide academic and pastoral support to students.
- Participate fully in the academic life of the School.
Requirements
- PhD (or near completion) in Human Geography or a closely related discipline.
- Experience teaching in Higher Education and a passion for inspiring students.
- Ability to teach confidently across a range of Human Geography topics beyond your immediate research specialism.
- Experience designing and delivering high-quality teaching and assessment, supervising student research, and creating an inclusive learning environment.
- Strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and ability to work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in qualitative methods teaching, field-based education, or curriculum development.
- Use of innovative approaches to learning and assessment.
- Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or willingness to work towards it).
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 1 FTE.
