Lecturer - Education Focused - Mathematics & Statistics
About the role
The Lecturer - Education Focused - Mathematics & Statistics role is located in Sydney, NSW, Australia. This position is part of the School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW, which is one of Australia's leading research and teaching universities.
Responsibilities
- Teach mathematics and statistics courses to a range of audiences at the University as required.
- Teach specialist Honours and Masters level courses, if required.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of the School’s teaching programs and courses.
- Actively develop educational resources for mathematics and statistics education, such as online materials, exam materials, and lecture notes.
- Develop learning and teaching collaborations within the School as well as links with other groups on campus.
- Supervise senior undergraduate (Honours) projects and Masters Coursework projects if required.
- Participate in School activities and demonstrate an ability and willingness to take on administrative roles in the School.
- Undertake administrative duties as specified by the Head of School and participate in School, Faculty and/or University committees as required.

- Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
Requirements
- A PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematics or statistics, and/or relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g., relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
- Capacity to conduct productive research and/or scholarship related to mathematics and statistics education.
- Capacity for, or experience in, student supervision including, e.g., Honours Thesis, Coursework Masters Project, Summer Scholars Project.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematics or statistics, and/or relevant work experience. They must also demonstrate teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence, capacity for research and student supervision, and commitment to UNSW’s values and policies.
Skills
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and students. They should also be able to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Benefits
The Lecturer - Education Focused - Mathematics & Statistics role offers a salary range of $133K - $156K plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading. The position is full-time (35 hours per week) and scheduled to commence in January 2027.
