Lecturer - Biology

Job Summary

The Biology Program in the Dr. James Earl Perry College of Mathematics, Computing, and Sciences at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia, invites applications for a Lecturer position. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction in undergraduate biology courses and contributing to the academic mission of the University through excellence in teaching and student engagement. Primary responsibilities include developing and delivering course content; preparing lectures, laboratories, and other instructional materials; assessing student learning; maintaining regular office hours; and providing academic guidance and support to students. The Lecturer will teach courses within the biology curriculum based on program needs and the candidate's area of expertise. The successful candidate is expected to employ effective and inclusive teaching practices, incorporate appropriate instructional technologies, maintain current knowledge within their discipline, and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of courses and curriculum. Additional responsibilities may include participation in program, college, and University service, collaboration with faculty and staff, and other duties in support of the Biology Program and the University's educational mission.

Responsibilities

• Teach introductory biology courses for biology and pre-nursing students.
• Incorporate high-impact teaching practices and experiential learning into course delivery to improve student outcomes.
• Pursue professional development opportunities that may include pedagogical conferences and meetings.
• Collaborate and actively participate in service to the Program/School/College/University events (e.g., meetings, graduations, seminars), initiatives, and institutional committees.
• Provide effective mentoring to undergraduate students, fostering their success and timely graduation while helping them achieve their career goals.

Required Education

• A master's degree in biology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Required Experience

• Demonstrated record or potential of excellence in higher education, or other evidence of the ability to provide effective undergraduate instruction.

Preferred Experience

• College-level teaching experience.
