Lecturer and Director of Economic Analysis and Public Scholarship

About the role

The Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNC Greensboro seeks a Lecturer and Director of Economic Analysis and Public Scholarship. This 12-month, 0.75 FTE (part-time) position begins August 1, 2026, and is benefits-eligible. The role bridges the Bryan School and the broader community by disseminating research to public and private sector audiences and securing funding for economic development initiatives. The position allocates 80% effort to economic development and public engagement and 20% to teaching in economics. Additional compensation may be available for externally funded supplemental tasks (up to 0.25 FTE), subject to university approval.

Responsibilities

• Public Education for Regional Economic Development (30%)
  • Deliver public education activities, including disseminating economics-related research findings to business and community leaders through press releases, media interviews, practitioner articles, and speeches.
  • Translate and share economic research with business leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders via presentations, publications, and outreach events.
  • Develop and distribute practitioner-oriented materials highlighting the School’s applied research and its relevance to regional economic challenges.
• Stakeholder Engagement (20%)
  • Serve as a liaison between the Bryan School and external partners, including local governments, economic development organizations, and industry leaders.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regional leaders to identify new research opportunities focused on regional economic issues and policies.
• Externally Funded Research (20%)
  • Conduct externally funded research initiatives related to economic development, securing funding through individual or collaborative efforts.
  • Foster partnerships supporting collaborative research aligned with regional development priorities.
• Annual Economic Impact Report (5%)
  • Produce an annual economic impact report for UNCG, providing data-driven insights to university leadership and external audiences.
• Other Duties (5%)
  • Perform additional duties related to economic development initiatives as assigned.
• Teaching (20%)
  • Teach 6 credit hours of courses per academic year in the Department of Economics.
  • Engage students in applied economics topics related to regional development, public policy, and economic strategy.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher in Economics or a closely related discipline with a concentration in Economics.
• Demonstrated experience in economic development, public engagement, or applied research.
• Strong communication skills, including public speaking and professional writing.
• Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, especially in Economics.
• Experience in higher education or academic research environments.
• Familiarity with North Carolina’s economic landscape and development priorities.
• Experience producing economic reports, policy briefs, or similar publications.

Pay

Recruitment range: $72,000 - $82,000.

Position is 0.75 FTE (part-time) with benefits. Additional compensation may be available for externally funded supplemental tasks (up to 0.25 FTE), subject to university approval.
