Learning & Performance Center Junior Associate Consultant (Intern)

About the role
The primary goal of this internship is to assist in operating the DFW Learning & Performance Center Welding Certification program by relieving the Welding Instructor (a Certified Welding Inspector) of repetitive tasks, allowing more one-on-one training with Mercedes-Benz Certified Structural Aluminum Welders. The intern will focus on three major activities:
- Under the supervision of the Certified Welding Inspector, learn to conduct destructive weld testing using approved equipment and document results.
- Develop, document, and implement processes for setup and conducting of Structural and Thin Panel Welding Work Trials, including maintenance of 18 Fronius welders, monitoring inventory levels, and communicating critical information to teammates.
- Assist with proctoring Work Trials and Thin Panel certification examinations.
This internship will help maintain the highest standard of structural and thin panel welder certification in a cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities
- Support all aspects of the Mercedes-Benz Welding and Testing lab.
- Develop tooling management and organization of welding equipment.
- Organize and execute products and weld tests before and during Structural Welding Work Trials.
- Conduct destructive weld tests for Work Trial participants and document results on the Mercedes-Benz Intranet.
- Program, troubleshoot, and test welding systems.
- Support Structural Welding Work Trial and Thin Panel Welding Certification participants.
- Assist in modifications and further development of the Mercedes-Benz welding program.
- Promote teamwork to achieve established goals and objectives.
Requirements
- Undergraduate student (rising junior or senior).
- Available from June 2026 to June 2027.
- Hybrid in-person schedule: 3 days weekly, up to 28 hours maximum.
- Available during core working hours of 10 AM - 3 PM Eastern.
Skills
- Working towards a Welding degree and/or hands-on welding manufacturing experience.
- Strong knowledge of current and leading-edge welding technologies.
- Ability to quickly learn about new products and technologies.
- Strong understanding of material processing, tooling, and part fabrication.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
