Learning Consultant
About the role
The Learning Consultant (LC) works with clients to execute on large/complex customer-facing projects that support critical business processes, application deployments, and other multifaceted initiatives contributing to the overall strategic direction of an organization. The LC is an expert in instructional design, adult learning theories, and emerging training technologies. This collaborative role provides programmatic direction and oversight to an internal team of instructional designers and the client project team to design, deliver, and evaluate large-scale training and Organizational Change Management (OCM) programs for various situations, including new hire onboarding, re-skilling, technology integration, and product launches. This is a fully remote, 14-week contract assignment.
Responsibilities
- Needs Assessment:
- Lead efforts to analyze and confirm performance problems.
- Collect data needed for learning and performance solutions and to inform change strategies.
- Conduct audience analysis of learners and stakeholders through interviews, surveys, and focus groups.
- Analyze client source content, target audience demographics, job tasks, and learner environment to identify learning objectives and instructional strategies.
- Coordinate identification of subject-matter experts or performance exemplars with the client.
- Curriculum Design:
- Create detailed curriculum maps reflecting analysis and demonstrating closure of knowledge or skill gaps.
- Develop learning objectives aligned with organizational goals.
- Consult with stakeholders to shape and confirm the learning strategy.
- Apply instructional design methods (e.g., ADDIE, Agile).
- Create engaging training or performance support options (e.g., simulations, job-aids, games, hands-on activities, interactive case studies, role-plays, and assessments).
- Provide thought leadership on adult learning theory, adoption accelerators, and delivery options.
- Create and manage epics and stories for agile projects.
- Communicate progress and outcomes of learning programs to key stakeholders.
- Coordinate Training Delivery Logistics:
- Assist customers with Learning Management System (LMS) selection and implementation recommendations.
- Coordinate instructor assignments.
- Creation of Evaluation, Communication, and Maintenance Plans:
- Develop evaluation plans to gauge the impact of training interventions on performance and organizational goals.
- Create maintenance and operation plans outlining solution delivery and maintenance needs.
- Develop playbooks to support rollout of training programs (e.g., Train-the-Trainer).
- Industry Leadership:
- Research and mentor team on emerging learning technologies, methodologies, and support systems.
- Identify new potential internal and external relations for tool, technology, and capability advancement.
- Improve instructional design and development processes, techniques, and solution types.
- Coaching and Mentorship:
- Mentor and coach Instructional Designers to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Lead development of learning standards for the organization.
- Monitor and review instructional design deliverables.
- Program Oversight:
- Resolve complex problems and mitigate risks.
- Present issues and negotiate effective solutions in cross-functional environments.
- Apply business and financial skills to manage instructional design projects.
- Adhere to financial budgets and timelines for complex projects.
- Collaborate with cross-practice partners to co-create solutions and address risks.
- Anticipate interdependencies and potential risks across projects.
- Ensure client satisfaction (CSAT) meets expectations.
- Meet deliverable goals and quality expectations based on business requirements.
- Manage cross-practice partnerships to ensure success.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and foster collaboration among team members and stakeholders.
- Build relationships among development teams and stakeholders.
- Influence the work of supporting team members when serving as project lead.
- Accountable for achieving high levels of teamwork and collaboration.
Requirements
- Technical Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of e-learning and industry standards (e.g., SCORM, AICC).
- Comprehensive knowledge of instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles, human behavior, performance, and training design.
- Proficient in leveraging human performance improvement methodologies to identify gaps and evaluate effectiveness.
- Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current learning development software.
- Ability to analyze source content and extract relevant information for instructional purposes.
- Working knowledge of main TGS business areas, including AI, application modernization, data modernization, and ITSM.
- Ability to use visualization and diagramming tools (e.g., Miro, Visio) to design and communicate instructional concepts.
- Proficiency with online communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, SharePoint) and etiquette for asynchronous communications.

- Demonstrated ability to apply a consultative approach, including active listening and solution-oriented communication.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with thorough knowledge of English grammar and composition.

Qualifications
- MA preferred or a BS/BA degree from an accredited university, ideally in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or Human Performance Improvement/Technology.
- 7+ years of experience in Learning Strategy or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience providing Learning Consulting in a corporate environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective collaboration skills with vendors, internal customers, and clients.
- Ability to build and maintain credibility with internal and external contacts.
- Exceptional oral and written communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Strong consulting, analytical, negotiating, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $109.00 - $109.00/hr.
