About the role

The Optical Communications segment of Corning is seeking a Lean Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for performing work safely, developing lean skills, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for performing work in a safe manner and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Continuously develop lean skills individually, as a part of the Lean Organization, and within the plant as a whole.
  • Plan and facilitate 3-4 Kaizen events per year, focusing on Value Stream Mapping, Kanban, SMED, 5S, etc.
  • Track cost savings per each Kaizen event and collaborate with Engineering and Finance to quantify and realize lean cost savings.
  • Support the site's 5S program and participate in routine Gemba performance audits with leadership.
  • Plan and implement workplace flow/layout improvements, analyze new equipment installations, movements, and modifications.
  • Assist in ergonomics assessments and provide lean feedback regarding workstation changes.
  • Identify and deploy opportunities at the plant level and across sister sites, collaborating with the Lean Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Work flexible hours, including potential overtime, and travel less than 10% of the time to facilitate best practice migration.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • 2 to 5 years of lean and/or operational experience.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, systems, and production processes.
  • Process/results-oriented with organizational and attention-to-detail abilities.

Skills

  • Ability to support the Lean Organization’s vision and strategy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

Pay

$31.50 - $35.75 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.

Schedule

Typical work schedule is 40 hours Monday through Friday. Will require support on each shift. Weekly schedules & shift coverage will be jointly agreed upon by the employee and the Lean/Kaizen leader.
