About the role
The Diagnostic Radiology Lead Technologist, under the direction of the Medical Director and/or Section Head, the Manager and the Radiologist(s) perform technical procedures and assists in the clinical evaluation and care of the patients in a fast-paced, Level I Trauma and Academic Medical Center at a level not requiring supervision.
Responsibilities
- Maintains clinical expertise in all areas of Diagnostic Radiology (ED, OR, Fluoroscopy, inpatient, outpatient, etc.).
- Maintains order and cleanliness in the department; responsible for the condition of the rooms after use and ensures the adequate supplies are available to facilitate the efficiency of other technologies and the entire departmental operations.
- In conjunction with the Medical Section Head and modality Manager, help develop, implement, support, and evaluate standards of patient care, imaging, procedural protocol, and clinical policies.
- Provides leadership and direction to support personnel, performing non-disciplinary duties as needed in the absence of a supervisor or manager.
- Strives to grow and develop student technologists and staff technologists, creating a professional, progressive Imaging department with a positive atmosphere.
- Serves as an extension of the department Manager in a stewardship role, allocating resources, and delegating responsibilities as needed.
- Assists Physicians in all aspects of procedures in their assigned area.
- Supports retention initiatives assisting in developing a healthy, welcoming, professional, and inclusive work environment.
- Practices in compliance with Hospital /department policy as well as New York state and accrediting agency's standards.
- Affords a safe and positive experience for the patient.
- On-call and Holiday responsibilities as assigned.
- Rotating responsibilities through Main Department, Fluoroscopy, ED, and OR as needed.
- Ensures supplies are ordered as needed by informing immediate supervisor or personnel responsible for placing orders.
- Acts as a mentor and preceptor to new staff and students.
- Responsible for orientation and training of staff in primary clinical areas.
- Ensures technical and professional education of orienting staff and students, recommends when additional training is needed.
- Actively supports AMCH and the imaging department in maintaining proper accreditations.
- Enters patient data into computer systems and schedules patient procedures accurately.
- QA’s images and patient information for accuracy prior to sending them to PACS.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age and special characteristics of the patient.
- Demonstrates professionalism in aiding patients in all aspects of radiologic procedures of assigned areas.
- Is responsible for patient safety and comfort.
- Consistently organizes patient care based upon knowledge of the patient’s needs and capabilities of the staff.
- Aid staff to identify facts that interfere with effective delivery of care and recommend solutions to the manager and medical section Heads acting as a liaison between staff and Radiologists.
- Collaborates with appropriate personnel to plan and assure optimal allocation of resources by allocating work to the technologist, delegating responsibility to staff as appropriate.
- Aids the manager weekly in completion of Kronos responsibilities, when necessary.

- Participates in recruitment initiatives as assigned (exp: Modality Day, NYS Conference, Hiring Events, etc.)
- Participates in assigning duties as it relates to those who perform similar tasks, as it relates to workflow, and other duties assigned by Manager.
Qualifications
- Effectively and professionally communicate with patients and their family members, co-workers, and visitors to AMC.

- Read and understand documents such as policies, procedures, and safety manuals.
- Document patient care on appropriate AMC forms.
- Ability to problem solve, perform exams, and interpret data efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to be honest and punctual and perform the functions of the position to the highest ethical standard as defined by AMC and the tenet of the profession.
- Ability to be accurate in such matters as data entry, exam documentation, and to use good judgment when performing the functions of the job or when interacting with others.
- Ability to accept direction, carry out orders, to work cooperatively with others and to avoid creating unnecessary conflict.
- Ability to adhere to the policies, procedures, and practices of AMC.
- Ability to utilize the policies of AMC to resolve grievances and/or disagreements.

Education/Licensure
- The Lead X-Ray Technologist must be a high school graduate (high school +1), possess an AS degree (BA/BS degree preferred but not required) and a graduate of an approved two-year AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- New York State Registration in Diagnostic Radiography or possess a limited permit to practice in the State of New York Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiologic Technology.
- In compliance with the ARRT Rules and Regulations, ARRT Standards of Ethics, and biennial continuing education (CE) requirements.
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider, CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.
- Active membership in at least one Professional Society (exp: American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), New York Stat Society of Radiologic Sciences (NYSSRS), etc.).
