About the Role

The Lead Instructor teaches courses and assumes administrative responsibilities for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning, and development. In scenarios where a program is newly implemented, being taught out, or has a small student population, the Lead Instructor provides leadership and oversight. They may also share responsibilities with a Program Director for larger programs or multiple campuses. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Lead Instructor serves as a subject matter expert, participates in curriculum development, and supports student and faculty success.

Responsibilities

  • Services to Students
    • Meet with first-term students during the drop/add period to address questions and validate their program choice.
    • Provide academic advising, including scheduling and program-specific guidance.
    • Supplement instructor advisement for students receiving failing mid-term reports.
    • Refer students to outside resources when needs exceed the school’s scope.
    • Arrange or provide tutoring for students in need.
    • Lead retention initiatives for students facing barriers to success.
    • Maintain regular contact with all students in the program and respond to questions or concerns promptly.
    • Post office hours for student accessibility.
    • Refer students to appropriate staff for non-academic problem resolution.
    • Participate in new student orientation and orient re-entering students.
    • Contact students who miss two consecutive days or exceed four absences in a term.
    • Maintain records of student interactions in the Student Information System (CampusVue).
    • Monitor instructor-student contact and follow up with students who were unreachable or did not return as promised.
    • Serve as a sponsor for student clubs related to the program and encourage participation in professional organizations.
    • Monitor extracurricular activities related to the program.
    • Identify students needing tutoring and arrange peer or instructor support.
  • Instructional Materials, Equipment, and Facilities
    • Serve as a subject matter expert for academic curriculum in the program area.
    • Actively participate in curriculum development and revision led by the Ancora Academics team.
    • Provide leadership in implementing new or revised curriculum.
    • Assist with preparation for PAC meetings and presentations.
    • Monitor classroom instructional materials, equipment, bulletin boards, and teaching aids.
    • Provide input for the master schedule, including course sequencing, room assignments, and instructor teaching assignments.
    • Assist in managing externship, student clinic, practicum, and related programs.
  • Faculty Performance and Development
    • Assist the Director of Education in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring faculty.
    • Evaluate faculty transcripts to determine course assignments.
    • Orient, monitor, supervise, mentor, and assist new instructors.
    • Ensure program instructors adhere to administrative and classroom delivery requirements.
    • Maintain completeness of faculty files, including transcripts, professional development, observations, and performance reviews.
    • Provide leadership and support to full-time and part-time instructors.
    • Observe classes and coach instructors to improve instructional and classroom management skills.
    • Conduct performance appraisals for faculty, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
    • Conduct regular day and evening faculty meetings on topics such as course improvement, instructional methods, and text selection.
    • Document all faculty meetings.
    • Provide product knowledge training to Admissions and Career Services personnel.
    • Share program trends and changes with all departments.
    • Assist Admissions with student recruitment as requested.
    • Promote faculty participation in professional development activities and document them.
    • Participate in at least one professional organization within the community.
    • Attend faculty meetings and in-service programs.
    • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, institutional regulations, and accreditation standards.
    • Assist in preparing government and accreditation reports, ensuring timely submission and accuracy.
    • Evaluate student questionnaire data and conduct faculty conferences to discuss results and improvement recommendations.
    • Maintain regular office hours to ensure consistency between day and evening policies.
    • Collaborate with peers to coordinate interdepartmental activities.
    • Resolve personnel issues among program instructors.
    • Assist the Director of Education in planning program budgetary needs.
  • Leadership and Development
    • Define roles and objectives for faculty, monitor performance, provide feedback, and meet regularly to discuss priorities.
    • Resolve individual and group performance opportunities to motivate and foster teamwork.
    • Identify opportunities to involve others in challenging work assignments to advance skills and organizational capabilities.
  • Instructor Duties
    • Promote and maintain a positive learning environment.
    • Fulfill administrative responsibilities for the classroom accurately and completely.
    • Manage the classroom and laboratory setting effectively.
    • Deliver instruction effectively.
    • Utilize Faculty Portal, Canvas, and other resources as appropriate.
    • Teach up to five classes, depending on program size and additional responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Education requirement varies by field of instruction:
    • At least 5 years of industry experience within the last 10 years.
    • 2 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment.
    • 2 years of industry experience in the field of instruction.
  • Experience in a management or supervisory role.
  • Ability to qualify as an instructor.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace applications and database programs (CampusVue preferred).
  • Knowledge of federal Department of Education, state, local, and accreditation standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • 5 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment.
  • 10 years of experience in the field of instruction.
  • Working knowledge of federal/state government education regulations.
  • 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
  • Previous experience as an academic program director.
  • Experience in student guidance or a related field.
