About the role
The City of Midland seeks a skilled and certified Water Treatment Plant Operator III to lead and mentor in delivering clean, safe drinking water to the community. This role involves operating complex plant operations, monitoring processes, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Operates the water treatment plant including related subsystems and instrumentation.
- Maintains water quality through laboratory tests and chemical dosing adjustments.
- Maintains operational logs and records, and performs preventative and predictive maintenance.
- Responds to emergencies and spills, and wears respirators as required.
- Supervises and trains lower-level operators, and provides customer service.
Requirements
- Class “B” Surface Water Treatment Certificate from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
- Three to five years of experience in a similar role.
- Valid Texas Class C driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a valid class “A” Water Works license within two years of employment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- College-level course work or trade school training in electrical, electronic, or instrumentation technology.
- Desirable: College-level course work in water treatment technology and management training.
Skills
- Operate and maintain water treatment plant equipment and systems.
- Read and interpret gauges, meters, and instrument readings.
- Diagnose and resolve complex operational problems.
- Perform complex inspections and preventive maintenance.
- Collect and compile water sample data and laboratory test results.
- Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
