Lead Teacher

Job Purpose

Direct learning activities of children according to the general guidelines of developmentally appropriate practice, as well as general supervision and management of the classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Must be capable of bending, crouching or kneeling to children's level
• Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height
• Must be capable of frequent changes of positions throughout the work shift
• Must have a minimum of a CDA certificate or be working on one
• Must have appropriate patience and demeanor to work with multiple children in one setting

Responsibilities

Knowledge Of Curriculum

• Familiarize and understand, as well as implement the curriculum through activities based on developmentally appropriate practice
• Create and post weekly lesson plans
• Participate in staff development activities and planning meetings as required by the Director and licensing
• Plan special activities, such as field trips and parties, as appropriate and as they relate to the curriculum
• Meet check points for Brigance/know when due. Keep portfolio information updated in Procare/Brigance

Knowledge Of Children

• Assist children with feeding, toileting and personal care (tying shoes, wiping noses, etc.) as appropriate
• Ensure the safety and security of children at all times
• Be alert and make modifications to daily activities to best meet social, emotional, physical and mental needs of each child
• Maintain visual supervision of all children in your care at all times
• Understand and implement the outlined center discipline policy
• Observe and document significant individual and/or group behavior
• Document and report suspected child abuse or neglect and alert Director and the childcare hotline

Parents

• Display a friendly, welcoming attitude toward parents and families
• Communicate to parents that you are available daily to respond to questions and concerns
• Communicate both positive and troubled behaviors. Not all messages should be about negative things
• Be the main communicator on Procare and communicate with assistant on what to input

Pay

$14-$17/hour, based on experience
